About Pack 166

Chartered in 1941 at Bexley United Methodist Church, both Pack 166 and Troop 166 were founded on the classic Scouting principles of developing strong minds, bodies and spirits while providing service to the community.  Pack 166 is currently comprised of 10 Dens; two each of the following ranks:

  • Tiger (first grade)
  • Wolf (second grade)
  • Bear (third grade)
  • Webelos I (fourth grade), and
  • Webelos II (fifth grade)

The Pack meets monthly at the Church on the third Thursday of each month, with some exceptions.  Pack meetings start sharply at 6:45 pm, with the aim of being finished no later than 8 pm.  Again, there are exceptions to the rule from time to time :-)

Cubmaster Steve Winer runs the Pack meetings together with help from den leaders and other parents.

As well as monthly Pack meetings, the individual Dens are expected to meet 2-3 times a month.  The Pack also goes camping four times a year, with one of those trips being a "blockbuster" at an excellent location.  For example, the Pack has been to the Newport Aquarium, Columbus Zoo, and Kelley's Island for its blockbuster trip.  Our Baloos, Allen Lloyd, Tom Mack, and Shane Neff, always makes sure that our camping trips are full of fun and excitement for boys and parents alike.  Our "Camping and Overnights" page is currently being updated and should provide all the information you need with regard to our outdoor activities.

October is always a busy month for the Pack as it's the time of year we hold our one and only fundraising activity selling popcorn.  Our Popcorn Kernels do a wonderful job coordinating this herculean event.  This year, we plan on selling as much popcorn as we possibly can, as one-third of all proceeds go directly back to Pack 166 and help fund our activities throughout the year, thereby keeping the costs down (as much as possible) for the boys and their families.

As you would expect, the Pack does its best to serve Bexley and the community in general.  Some of our service projects each year include the upkeep of the Bexley United Methodist Church grounds, placing flags on the graves of veterans at Green Lawn Cemetery every Memorial Day weekend, building and tending the honey bees at the Bexley Community Gardens and marching in the Bexley Fourth of July Parade.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about our Pack, please Contact Us, and we'll get right back to you.

Always remember, do your best!
